Viona F. Nowak Obituary

Viona Frances (Pagel) Nowak, age 99, fell asleep in Jesus on February 19, 2025 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. She was born January 13, 1926 in the Town of Lind, to the late Henry and Frances (Zaudke) Pagel. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waupaca. She married Harvey Willard Nowak on May 17, 1947. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2001.

Viona was a charter member of the Weyauwega Garden Club. She loved gardening and all flowers. Viona and Harvey were an integral part in establishing the annual Horse and Buggy Days celebration in Weyauwega. A highlight for them was when they were crowned Horse and Buggy Days king and queen in 1986. She was a member at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega and their Ladies Aid.

She truly treasured time spent with all of her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved animals but had a special place in her heart for dogs. She had many special pets throughout the years; most recently she enjoyed her visits with Dinky.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Darrel Nowak, two brothers, Marvin (Irma) Pagel and Gilbert Pagel.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy (Philip) Krause, Waupaca, WI; her grandchildren: Melinda (Scott) Peterson, Berlin, WI, and their children Mike Mularski, Rebecca (Richard) McMartin, and Lindsay (Branden) Boulanger; Jennifer (Ryan) Metko, Brillion, WI, and their children Grace and Alex Metko; Kristin (Frank) Hamilton, Phoenix, AZ, and their children Amelia, Juliana, Melayna, and Victoria Hamilton; Joel (Victoria) Nowak, Greenville, WI; Jared (Amy) Nowak, Weyauwega, WI, and their children Maxwell and Allison Nowak; three great-great grandchildren; former daughter-in-law Judy (Dave) Behm; and daughter-in-law, Laura Nowak.

A special thank you to the staff at Bethany Home and ThedaCare hospice for treating Viona like family.

The Christian Funeral for Viona will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, at 11:30 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Weyauwega with Rev. Aaron Kristopeit officiating. Burial will be in Lind Center Cemetery, Town of Lind. A visitation will be held at the church on Monday prior to the service from 9:30 AM - 11:15 AM.
